Vortex ring refraction at large Froude numbers 1
Submitted for the MAR10 Meeting of The American Physical Society Vortex ring refraction at large Froude numbers1 KERRY KUEHN, MATTHEW MOELLER, MICHAEL SCHULZ, DANIEL SANFELIPPO, Wisconsin Lutheran College — We have experimentally studied the impact of a planar axisymmetric vortex ring, incident at an oblique angle, upon a sharp gravity-induced interface separating two fluids of differing densit...
متن کاملRough Numbers and Rough Regression
In this article a new model of regression is defined. On the basis of the rough sets theory a notion of rough number is defined. Typical real numbers calculations do not keep the additional information like the uncertainty or the error of input data. Rough numbers remove this limitation. It causes that rough numbers seem to be interested as the basis of the new way of regression: rough regression.
متن کاملBubbly Two-Phase Flow in Hydraulic Jumps at Large Froude Numbers
A hydraulic jump is a sudden, rapid transition from a supercritical flow to a subcritical flow. At large inflow Froude numbers, the jump is characterized by a significant amount of entrained air. For this paper, the bubbly two-phase flow properties of steady and strong hydraulic jumps were investigated experimentally. The results demonstrate that the strong air entrainment rate and the depth-av...
متن کاملEffect of Froude number on bubble clustering in a hydraulic jump
The study of bubble clustering processes may provide a significant insight into turbulent air–water flows. Previous studies investigated these processes in plunging jets, dropshafts and hydraulic jumps. This research investigates the bubble clustering process in hydraulic jumps using experimental data collected in a rectangular horizontal flume with partially developed inflow conditions for inf...
متن کاملSloping Binary Numbers: A New Sequence Related to the Binary Numbers
If the list of binary numbers is read by upward-sloping diagonals, the resulting “sloping binary numbers” 0, 11, 110, 101, 100, 1111, 1010, . . . (or 0, 3, 6, 5, 4, 15, 10, . . .) have some surprising properties. We give formulae for the n-th term and the n-th missing term, and discuss a number of related sequences.
